Expectation management and honesty on the front end. Surgery went perfectly. Because of that honesty, I knew what to expect each step of the way during recovery. And I was aware of what I needed to do at each stage. I was able to walk day of surgery, and each day after. By the 2 week mark I was in a better state than pre surgery. I feel so good that I have to hold myself back at bit by the 6 week mark. Full extension and flexion already comparable to pre surgery. The continued care and guidance is much appreciated. I can’t thank Doc enough for this.

Dr. Nabat was great. He explained everything preoperatively, what to expect, what to look out for. The surgery went very well. Recovery has been phenomenal. His guidance and instructions have helped me resume almost all daily activities within three - six weeks of total knee replacement. Highly recommend him for anybody considering knee replacement.

After years of trying every conservative solution, Doc & I agreed time to replace the knee. To achieve full success, I understood this was a partnership: doc would would provide the best surgery, tools, and information resources available, and I would simply have to follow all post-op, rehab, and therapy protocols to have any chance of success. Doc kept up his end of the partnership. I attempted to do the same. I knew rehab would not be easy, so I started by changing my outlook/perspective. In concept, I only allowed myself 2 days to “recover “ and every day afterwards was a “training” day; training and rehabbing to maximize the benefits of the surgery. Just walked out of my 1 year post-op and I am living the dream…and fully pain free!Doc Nabet not only provided the surgery, but his team provided clear pre and post op instructions, the best tools and equipment available, and every opportunity to ensure a successful implant!

Dr. Nabet and his team are the best at what they do. Dr. Nabet tells you the way it is. No gray area regarding your health issues. He is straight foward and treats you like you really matter to him. My knee replacement surgery went on without a hitch. The OR team with Dr. Nabet, including the Post-Op nurse and ward staff were professional, all seemed to love their jobs, and treated me with respect and privacy. I have had 9 surgeries at NMCP and I would go nowhere else. As a retired Chief Corpsman, who has been around a hospital or two, I can definitely say that Dr. Nabet and his surgical team are the best I have ever seen and as a patient I greatly appreciate each and everyone of them. They are the very best at what they do. Please recognize each of them and pass on my sincere appreciation for their dedication and hard work. They emulate the very best of Navy Medicine.

Dr Nabet is a straight shooter, and worked to make sure I was fully aware of all actions, the surgery and recovery were tracked to successful completion. I am happy now after replacement surgery than have been for 20 plus years; with knee first sustained damage while stationed in Okinawa and kept increasing over the years. I have been seeing Dr. Nabet for several years for arthritis in both knees. Shots worked well until this year with zero relief. We discussed replacement surgery and although it's never a good time scheduled it quickly with both knees one month apart. Both surgeries went extremely well. I walked out of the hospital with a cane and the recoveries have been good. I like that Dr. Nabet was fully engaged in my entire knee replacement journey with excellent advice and spot on knowledge. I have had a fair amount of orthopedic surgical procedures and can say without a doubt he is the best orthopedic doctor I have ever been treated by.

Met Austin just under two weeks ago when scheduled orthopedic surgeon was selected to deploy and recommended Austin as the best orthopedic surgeon they had. Met him and he was very open transparent about my knee and told me what we could do and how we would make it happen! Had surgery today and he was awesome. Dr. Nabet is the most personable and knowledgeable doctor I have ever had as a health care provider. Always has the time to answer questions and explain everything thoroughly, putting my mind at ease. And his surgical skills are superb! My first knee replacement went fantastic and my second one even better as he constantly seeks to improve his surgical techniques for the best possible outcome. I had bilateral knee replacement. I am now at home and recuperating. Things are going very well. I know bilateral knee replacement is not common but I am completely happy with my decision. Dr Nabet explained all of the possible outcomes to include twice the possibility of infection. Dr Nabet did an excellent job and if I hit the lottery I will buy him the car of his choice!

From total hip replacement pre-op visits to post-op follow ups Dr. Nabet was the consummate professional. He explained things thoroughly, answered all my questions… and my wife's, and erased any apprehension that I had. I came to Commander Nabet’s office believing that I had lived a robust life until now and the result was a level of pain that I would just have to live with… praise Christ NOT SO. Further, Dr. Nabet continued to increase my knowledge about the total hip replacement procedure during subsequent visits. I actually started having fun as Austin is a funny guy and we would frequently cut up during pre-op visits… I actually started looking forward to the surgery. During my 6-week post-op visit I reminded Dr. Nabet that he told me prior to surgery that I would be one of those guys who would look back and say to myself, ‘I wish I had done that earlier’… you guessed it. I wish I had! Well, here I am 7-weeks after surgery and I just got in from mowing the lawn.

I met Dr Nabet with chronic life-inhibiting hip pain and now, two weeks post-op it is life-changing! I am walking freely unaided and the hip pain is no more. Dr Nabet has a superb manner - direct, caring, confident and informing - the ideal combo IMHO. And, he is clearly uber skilled! His team are great too, really professional, welcoming and super proactive. On the day of the op the whole team from nurses, anesthetists to the operating theatre team and up to Dr Nabet went out of their way to keep me informed and put me at ease - I really appreciated that. i had a fantastic experience pre, during and post op - I can’t praise, or recommend, highly enough.

I have been going to Dr. Nabet for years! He is a very knowledgeable doctor who cares about his patients. My appointments are never rushed as he takes the time to explain things and address any concerns I might have about my treatments. He has done two Total Knee Replacements for me and I'm very satisfied with the outcome of them both. Also I would like to mention that he's very respectful of the patients time and doesn't leave you waiting for long periods of time.

Dr Nabet has the ability to create and manage a team of superb clinical specialists. He presents all available options and lets the patient make the decisions. He told me from the first meeting we had that I would know when it was time to replace the knee, and he was right. As it turned out, I needed both knees replaced. The first one had a lot of damage from previous injuries and surgeries, and was a complicated and challenging surgery. Using the latest available technology, the surgical outcome was perfect, leaving that knee with better alignment than it had since the first surgery, which was more than twenty years previous. The second TKA went smoothly as well; range of motion and utility of the joint were very quickly attained. I was able to walk and climb stairs without needing a walker or crutches within the first week. My wife and I were both impressed with the warm , friendly and professional service provided by everyone at the facility.

From my first appointment Dr. Nabet has been a pleasure to interact with. He identified the issues in my hip and recommended me for total joint replacement. Explaining the process and stating the outcomes are generally very good I agreed to have the procedure done. I attended a joint replacement class that built my confidence in the procedure even more. On the day of surgery Dr Nabet came to the pre-op area to meet with assuring me I was in good hands making me feel comfortable and at ease. Once waking in recovery I felt relief from the pain I was experiencing, I was up and walking the same day and couldn’t believe how great I felt. I experienced mild discomfort from the surgery site but still better than prior to having the procedure. Thank you Dr Nabet for your professionalism and by being a great surgeon! Dr Nabet was a consummate professional in every regard. From the outset, he was exceptionally personable and extremely knowledgeable. He explained in full detail all the range of options I had for a partial knee replacement, or a full knee replacement. He discussed the details of each procedure, the long-term implications regarding rehabilitation and recovery, and even gave me the option of waiting until the day of surgery to make a decision on whether to go partial knee or full knee. My knee had been hurting for many years, so I saw Dr. Nabet. He listened to my concerns, never seemed rushed, was always compassionate, and took great care of me before, during, and after my knee replacement. I feel great, I have finally returned to tennis! Fast forward to 2024, my knee was shot, arthritis deterioration made it difficult to walk far, and after trying to hike in the mountains that spring and failing miserably, I decided to go ahead and get it done.
From the very first visit, Dr Nabet made me feel at ease and confident in my decision. He listened to my concerns, took time to answer all of my questions, and has a kind, caring bedside manner, all of which are important to me. Additionally, he is an excellent orthopedic surgeon. Recovery has been very good. From day one I could go up and down stairs, and I am able to walk a few miles at a time now, five months after surgery. Mountain hiking, something I truly love, is a reality again. Before my surgery, I could not go downhill or down stairs very easily, as it was painful and unstable. Now, it’s no problem at all and I keep showing off how easy it is to my husband. He laughs and says he is happy not to have to be my support mule anymore, ha ha!
If you’re on the fence, know that you are in good hands with Dr Nabet. He really is one of the best!
